RELAX

What should we do when we are there?

People always ask us what they should do while they are in Carlsbad. So below is our ideal 3 day trip. We hope this helps you plan your trip.

1st
Day

Where to stay: We always recommend our partner hotel the Trinity. They are reasonable priced and their historic building and friendly staff will make your trip even more special.

Where to eat: Tonight you should grab some famous BarBQ at Red Chimney. Our favorite is the brisket and the loaded potato. If you happen to find them closed than head over to Danny's Bar BQ, where the food is fabulous too!

What to do: Take an evening stroll along the 7 miles of paved walkway along the river. Stop and sit for a while and enjoy the water.

Or head out to the Carlsbad Caverns to catch the bat flight. Each evening thousands of Mexican Freetail Bats leave the caves to fly into Mexico to hunt for bugs all night. This is a must see for anyone traveling between the months of May and October. Bat Flights begin at 7pm daily.

2nd
Day

Where to eat: If your staying at the Trinity you can grab breakfast downstairs before you leave for the day. If not pop on by for an espresso drink and a hearty breakfast. For lunch we recommend a burger from the Church Street Grill. And for dinner you can not miss the Italian specials, steak and seafood at the Trinity. Voted #1 restraurant every year!

What to do:

Get up and get going early this morning. Head start our to the Carlsbad Caverns. Remember to wear good walking shoes and you may want to bring a light jacket or hoodie since it's much cooler in the caves. We also recommend that people plan for a good 4 hours at the caverns. So you may want to pack a light snack for the car ride back. The drive from  Carlsbad to the Caverns is about 30 minutes but all that walking around can make you hungry.

When you return back to town, you can cool off in the water and enjoy our free beach area. Don't forget to grab a pedal boat for ride aroudn the river and make sure you plan to join us for our guided boat tours up the river. And don't forget to feed our giant Carp fish!

After a long day you can relax and unwind at the Trinity wine bar with some locally made wine from the Balzano Family Vineyards. But if you want something tride and true they have that too!

If you feel like dancing head down the street to the Ocotillo Bar at the Stevens Inn. Country dancing and good ole bar vibe is always available.

3rd
Day

Where to eat: For a lovely breakfast and coffee on the patio, head to Blue House Bakery. For lunch we recommend Lucky Bull  or the Pecos River Cafe both on the main street through town. And for dinner stop in to the new PJ and B's located in the Pecos River Village, alongside the river.

What to do:

Plan on a trek to the Living Desert State Park located right on the edge of town. This beautiful park is a more of a wild desert zoo, where you can see wildlife and plants that are native to the area. Make sure you hit the gift shop for cool cactuses and other fun things to take home.

If you have a little more time in your day, continue north on Highway 285 to cut off for Sitting Bull Falls. This true oasis int he desert is a large waterfall and picnic area that sits quietly in the middle of our vast southwestern landscape. Bring water and snacks, there isn't anything for miles! How nice!

Thanks for visiting and we hope you come back again soon!
